Embracing the Water Element: Letting Go and Strengthening Your Spirit in December 2025

As December 2025 unfolds, a powerful shift takes place in the natural energy cycle. The Metal energy of the Lungs gradually releases, making way for the Water energy of the Kidneys. This transition invites us to focus on what we want to release from our lives and what we want to strengthen within ourselves. The Water Element is deeply connected to the ears and the flow of energy within the body. By tuning into this element, we can cultivate ease, endurance, and courage while gently letting go of fear.

Understanding the Water Element and Its Role in December

In traditional Eastern philosophy, the Water Element governs the Kidneys and Bladder, organs that play a crucial role in maintaining balance and vitality. December, especially its last few weeks, marks the time when Metal energy from the Lungs transitions into Water energy. This natural cycle encourages us to reflect on what we need to release—old habits, fears, or emotional blockages—and what we want to nurture and strengthen moving forward.

Water energy is about flow, adaptability, and resilience. Just like a river that finds its way around obstacles, our energy should move freely without being dammed or blocked. When Water energy is balanced, it supports ease, endurance, and courage. When it is out of alignment, fear can take hold, limiting our potential and well-being.

The Connection Between Water Element and Listening

The ears are the sensory organs associated with the Water Element. This connection reminds us to keep listening—not just to the sounds around us but also to our inner voice and intuition. Listening deeply allows us to understand what we need to let go of and what deserves more attention and care. A Sound Bath with Harmony Yoga would be a wonderful gift for yourself and others! Simply reach out to Carol for a Gift Certificate to schedule one in her home studio(max of 4 students)

Practicing mindful listening can be as simple as:

  • Spending a few minutes each day in quiet reflection

  • Paying attention to the subtle messages your body sends

  • Being open to feedback from others without judgment, oh that's a big one. Just Be BIG EARS and take it all in....it's quite a thing!

By keeping our ears and minds open, we allow the Water energy to flow smoothly, supporting emotional clarity and inner strength.

Meridian Breathing to Support Kidney and Bladder Energy

One practical way to nurture the Water Element is through Meridian Breathing, a technique that helps keep the Kidney and Bladder meridians energized and balanced. Here’s a simple exercise to try:

  1. Inhale deeply and imagine a river of light starting at the soles of your feet.

  2. Visualize this light flowing upward through your legs and torso, reaching the kidney points located near your collarbones. This represents the Kidney Chi flow.

  3. Exhale slowly from your Third Eye (the space between your eyebrows), guiding the breath down both sides of your spine, along the backs of your legs, and out through your pinky toes. This is the Bladder meridian flow.

Practicing this breathing exercise daily can help maintain a smooth flow of Water energy, reducing fear and building resilience.

What to Let Go of and What to Strengthen

December’s Water energy invites us to examine our lives and identify what no longer serves us. This might include:

  • Old fears or anxieties that limit your growth

  • Negative thought patterns or self-doubt

  • Physical or emotional clutter that drains your energy

At the same time, this is the perfect moment to strengthen qualities that align with the Water Element:

  • Courage to face challenges with calm confidence

  • Endurance to sustain your efforts through difficult times

  • Ease in accepting change and moving forward gracefully

Journaling can be a helpful tool here. Write down what you want to release and what you want to build. Reflect on how these changes will improve your life and well-being.

Practical Tips to Embrace Water Energy This December

  • Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water supports kidney health and helps maintain energy flow.

  • Spend time near water: Lakes, rivers, or even a bath can help you connect with the Water Element.

  • Practice gentle movement: Activities like Tai Chi, Qigong, or slow yoga encourage energy flow and balance.

  • Create a calming environment: Use colors like deep blues and blacks, and incorporate water sounds or fountains in your space.

  • Eat kidney-supporting foods: Black beans, seaweed, and blueberries are traditionally linked to kidney health.

Recognizing Fear and Transforming It

Fear is the emotional signal that Water energy is out of balance. It can manifest as anxiety, hesitation, or a feeling of being stuck. When you notice fear creeping in, try these steps:

  • Pause and take a few deep Meridian Breathing cycles.

  • Acknowledge the fear without judgment.

  • Ask yourself what this fear is trying to protect you from.

  • Visualize the fear dissolving like ice melting in a warm stream.

  • Replace fear with a positive affirmation, such as “I am safe and strong.” Especially since our BONES are able to be strengthened the easiest this time of year!
